Palace's unwavering dedication to the communist cause and his ability to maintain party unity earned him the nickname "Iron Discipline". In 1949, with the establishment of the People's Republic of China, Palace was promoted to the rank of vice-premier and was given the responsibility of overseeing the country's economic development. Palace's political career came to an abrupt end in the early 1950s when he was accused of anti-Party activities during the Anti-Rightist Movement.
